Sentences

A Sentence expresses a coherent idea and, in written form, is traditionally delineated by:

  • Capitalized first letter (double-underlined below) marking the beginning of the sentence;

  • Ending Punctuation (the period, question mark, or exclamation point below) marking the end;

  • Space after the ending punctuation to separate one sentence from the next.

My sister hates the rain! Why? It interrupts her golf game.

Without such delineations, writing would be increasingly confusing, to the point of unintelligible over the course of lines and pages.

my sister hates the rain why it interrupts her golf game

… Not to mention potentially saying something we don’t mean.

After lying to my friend, I told her I was sorry. We are still friends.

after lying to my friend I told her I was sorry we are still friends
